I was talking for a living for most of my working life.  Now I'm retired, I have time to talk for pleasure − hopefully, yours!

I regularly give talks at locations all across Kent, including Medway, Sheppey and Thanet, to a variety of different groups − with a variety of different interests, from Active Retirement Associations to Women’s Institutes, including Church Groups, Historical Societies, Probus, Rotary, Round Table, Young Wives and all sorts of ‘special interest’ groups.  Anywhere people gather in groups, I’ll come and talk to them (at short notice, if I’m available).  My audiences have ranged in size from less than 10 to more than 110 people, male and female, and of all ages.

I talk about things which interest me and about which I am enthusiastic.  That way, I’m pretty sure that my audience will enjoy listening!
(Follow this link to see where I’ve been!)

My Talks:

I currently have two talks, both fully illustrated using the latest digital technology equipment − all of which I supply.  Each talk lasts about 50 minutes with time for comments and questions.  (I also need about five minutes to set up equipment before a talk.)

1 - ‘Flying For Fun’ is obviously about flying!  I am enthusiastic and experienced and have been passionate about flying since my childhood.  I have flown literally hundreds of times as pilot or passenger in more than thirty different types of aircraft including gliders, microlights, autogyros, helicopters, various light aircraft, commercial airline flight simulators − even Concorde, the fastest way to travel, and a hot air balloon, the slowest!

‘Flying For Fun’ features an entertaining look at the history of aviation, a reassuring review of airline safety, a glimpse at my piloting experiences, and concludes with instructions on how to fly a helicopter!

2 - ‘My Life as Film Star’ is obviously a completely different subject but presented in a similar style using the same technology. This talk features a light-hearted look behind the scenes at film making, with particular reference to the making of the 2004 BBC TV film ‘Dunkirk’ − some of which was filmed locally and in which I played a small (very small!) part.

My Fee:

My fee, unchanged since 2014, is just £20 plus travelling expenses at the standard mileage rate of 45p per mile from Blean, near Canterbury.
